All Mighty Oaks 1st - 8th graders are participating in the 22nd annual Kindest Kansas Citian essay contest. The essay contest is sponsored by Synergy Services, a non-profit that works hard to make life without family violence, abuse or neglect a reality in Kansas City. (Check out their website to learn more - they are an awesome organization!)
The purpose of the essay contest is two-fold. It helps students to identify the adults in their lives who are genuinely kind and trustworthy, and it allows students - and the community - an opportunity to acknowledge and thank these outstanding Kansas Citians.
After all essays have been read, the top 20 most heart-felt essayists will be invited to attend an awards dinner with their nominee on Friday, May 11, 2012. At the heart of this celebration will be the 20 area citizens selected from thousands of student nominations.
Mighty Oaks students wrote their essays in class on Wednesday (if your student was absent on Wednesday, they have not written an essay yet). 1st & 2nd graders are invited to submit a drawing to support their essay, and these drawings were also completed in class on Wednesday. 3rd-5th graders have been given the option of either typing or rewriting their essay in ink. 6th-8th graders are required to type their essays. All must be completed and turned in to me on Wednesday, Feb. 8. Please check with your student to see how they are progressing on this piece of their essay.
Contest terms require contact information for the nominee and essayist, as winners will be notified directly by Synergy Services. I will have entry forms for all students tomorrow and ask that they be returned on Wednesday.
