We made snow in class today but it sure was tasty. We were reading the story Katy and the Big Snow and since it is mid January and 50 outside we brought the snow to us. We use this recipe but you could vary it. I told all the students that they could try it at home because we only got to sample a little bit of it in class.
We use a ball like this http://www.amazon.com/UCO-F-ICE-08-CREAM-MAKER-GREEN/dp/B000W5ZZCG but you can use 2 cans a bigger can and a smaller can inside of it or 2 ziploc baggies, a smaller one inside a larger one.
We used:
4 cups of milk (we had 1 %)
1 2/3 cups of sugar
1/2 tbsp of vanilla
put that in the smaller bag or can, you can use more or less amounts of each, I don't think you can really mess it up to easily. You could add other things like cocoa, syrup of strawberry jam instead of vanilla
Put rock salt (we used about 1 cup) and ice, fill the bigger bag or can almost filled can and seal and put the small bag or can into the big bag and seal.
Then you shake the bag or roll the can back and forth for about 10 to 15 minutes until the milk has frozen.
Enjoy and eat!
