On Monday, March 25th. the 3rd-6th graders will finish their persuasive speeches. I will also introduce our next Public Speaking unit - Poetry.
Next week, I will be teaching students how to read poetry aloud and I will ask students to each choose a funny poem that they will read aloud, or recite, the following week. I have a few books of poetry that students can look at for options. If you have a book of poems that you are comfortable sending in your child's backpack (for your child's use), please consider doing so next week. I'll send out a reminder!
Students will be encouraged to choose poems that they really like. They will be given the option to read/recite their poems in costumes or with props if appropriate to the poem. Gestures and accents are also welcome and encouraged if relevant. You can help by making sure students understand all the words in their poems. Please remind them to practice their poems at home next week so that they can focus on volume, clarity, pace, posture, and eye contact during delivery.
