Pinata Time in History!

Welcome back MOEC Families!

This week in History we are visiting South America and experiencing their freedom from Spanish rule.  On Wed. we will be making a Peruvian Rice Pudding.

Next week we will finally visit Mexico.  I say finally because if you remember back to Labor Day week, we didn't have school on Monday/Labor Day, so that Wed. we made the molds for our pinatas so they had a chance to dry.  I think every week on Monday since then the kids have been asking if this is the week for the pinatas!  Well, it's time!  On Monday next week we will go over the stories and the map work.  Then on Wed. we will decorate our pinatas with tissue paper.

The week after that is a test week.  Normally we go over our test reviews on Monday and then take the test on Wed.  For this test review I will just be sending it home with the correct answers already marked for your student(s) to study- BECAUSE we will be breaking our pinatas that Monday during class.  Please go over the review with your student(s) at home so they are ready for the test on Wed.  We will also be having Mexican Hot Chocolate and making Mexican Paper Flowers.

SO, I am asking each family to send in candy to help fill the pinatas.  Please read the following:
*One student= one bag of candy
*Two or more students= 2 bags of candy per family

Please send these either this Wed. or by next Monday.  I need to make sure we have enough candy to fill the 16 pinatas they made.  I will pick a reasonable amount of candy the kids will each get to collect when their groups pinata breaks and then any left over candy will go to the classes when we play games for test reviews or rewards for bringing back purple folders.

I am so excited about the units we have coming up.  We are really able to start seeing a pattern from these leaders that have started out with a purpose of helping people and then letting pride set in and watching their fall.  We are discussing some great life lessons learned.  I love history and all we can learn from it!
