Color me impressed!!! The kids all really did a great job this time on their History tests. You can can they paid attention to the true/false statements. Some are still struggling with that a bit, but they'll get it. Tests will come home in purple folders graded on Monday. Please return empty purple folders on Wed.
I want you all to know my thoughts on "History". While I love knowing dates and names, what I truly believe to be the most important thing we can take from learning about history is the underlining themes and how we can learn about life and use it to make wise decisions and hopefully not make the same mistakes. That is what we did as a country when we established the United States. While there was a bit of trial and error at first, we had learned from history what kind of government we didn't want to have. I pray the students will have a love for history, but that they will also be able to use it someday to make good life decisions. If they are a CEO of some great company, I want them to remember what a good leader did for his people, etc. Does that make since?
Also, keep in mind, that what they are going over in second grade right now, they'll see again. The idea with Story of the World is that they will get the info twice. So, if some of the information seems overwhelming to your student right now, don't worry. I try and present the information in an exciting way and really try to keep driving home the same underlined themes.
Cotton gins went home today!!! Next week, we visit China!
