For History this week we learned about Henry the IV and how France entered the race for the Northwest Passage. How Samual Champlain settled what is now Quebec for a French Colony. And how Henry Hudson's drive to find the passage led his men to mutiny against him and leave him to die, but that the Hudson Straight and Hudson Bay were named after him. Ask your student what Hudson's men ate on their voyage back to England---and remind them of this when they tell you that they are starving. Our activity this week was making the ship The Discovery. We discussed the importance of this vessel, which had a Galleon "V" Stern, in the race for this passage that would lead to wealth and control over the spice silk trade routes. Your kids cracked me up this week using the glue guns! Next week we travel to Japan- write Haiku poems and Sumo wrestle!
